This page gives us a chance to tell you about two of Nancy's novels.

  • The first is ".... And Beware Of Your Friends". It is the first in a series about mystery writer Kirsty McLeod. In this story she is seriously injured at her Los Angeles home. She returns to her past in Big Springs, Minnesota to recuperate. These first three chapters will engross you to the point where you will insist that a publisher print the novel for you to complete your reading.

The second novel is "Shadows on St. Germain". It was published by Publish America on June 15, 2003. It is available from Amazon.

    •

The complete novel includes a Preface. Nancy's "Shadows on St. Germain" suspense novel is based in Normandy. It features events following the Canadian Raid on Dieppe, France, on August 19, 1942. It was published by Publish America in June, 2003.

 Dear Nancy

I thank you very much for that fast and interesting answer. I am a little disappointed that Andre Tousignant is not the true name; it would have been such a nice story to put in my genealogy. But, some other way, I am most flattered that you have chosen our name for this novel. Don't change anything. I thank you also for the photo of Leo. It reminds me when I was in the Canadian Army during the last World War. I have 14 Leos listed in my genealogy and a few of them could be him but it is not possible to identify him positively. You have been very nice to answer me and I still wish you good luck.

Thank you for your kind thoughts about my novel. I wish a publisher felt the same way. I was about 16 in Louisville,Kentucky when I met Leo at a USO dance. I don't recall too much but apparently I did see him once or twice and must have corresponded with him for some time later while visiting friends in Detroit he came down and we spent the day together.

I am not sure where he was from ... I thought Montreal but I am not sure. When I began writing this suspense story about the Canadian raid on Dieppe I remembered the name which I had thought so pretty and unusual enough not to invade anyone's privacy and I see that I have done just that.

My name then was Nancy Calveard. Since then my husband and I have made three trips to Normandy and Brittany. Actually happened to be in Dieppe on the 40th anniversary of the landing. It was quite an affair and we were surprised to see as many Germans as there were Canadians.

Best wishes,
Nancy Bowie

Subject: Genealogical Information

My name is Andre Tousignant.
I was very impressed to read the first Chapter of "Shadows of St.Germain" that I found out on Internet. It is a great success of yours and Iam sure it will be a bestseller.

I am a genealogist, for over 40 years, working on the Tousignant families. For this reason, I was wondering if that Andre Tousignant, one of the principal figures of this novel, is a true or fictional name? If it is his true name, I want to carry out research in France to find more about genealogical information.

One Andre Tousignant was born on september 20th 1882 and I never could find anything else about him. If he is the good one, that means he would have been 60 years old at the moment of this event. That makes sense, I guess!

I thank you in advance for this awaited answer and I wish you good luck.

We encourage folks to discuss whatever they might have might enjoyed about this site with their friends.

Niles Deden visits us most Tuesday mornings. He brings doughnuts and I brew espresso. We discuss nothing serious. Occasionally we talk about Internet skills or lack of them. He sponsors a public service site in Goodhue, Minnesota.

On the left in the next image you see Mary Cecile Smith. She had come along with Mrs. Lynette Pearson to demonstrate a few moments of WWII era ballroom dancing. That demonstration was deferred until a later date when flooring will have been prepared to take advantage of their dance skills. The lady on the right is Mrs. Karen Chalmers.
We are all proud of Karen and Rich Chalmers for sharing their son Jim with us.

Robert Meyer returned home on Tuesday, November 24, at 7:00 pm. after a long day's work in the Twin Cities to learn that a memorial celebration was being conducted in the Bowie home. Without hesitation he came here to record the event with his professional photographic talent. Within a few days he presented Glenn with a CD containing 94 images. Five copies of the CD were made and are available for not for profit purposes.

Dar phoned me on Sunday, November 22, to inform me that he had prepared his homily for the celebration on the 24th. I could tell by tone of voice that he was pleased with it. The participants reacted in a pleased manner.

Father and Mrs Charles Uhlik in background supporting Pat Sween. They kindly brought Mrs Henry Roome with them. Olive gave up driving an auto four years ago. When we came to Red Wing in 1987, we found great companionship amongst folks like Louis and Jean Ode and Henry and Olive within the Christ Church community.

George Noesen experienced deep personal hardship in days prior to the memorial celebration at our home. Yet he came, along with sister-and-law Pat Moore and spouse Margaret. When Dar and I were planning the service, he asked for my suggestion for someone to be a reader. I mentioned Peg Noesen. He said there could not be a better choice. He spoke briefly with her by phone and she agreed to provide that kind gesture.

There are a lot of things you simply need not ever know about, or even learn. One thing you do: it is always 3:00 a.m. in the deep, dark night of the soul. Dell Kerr taught me about F. Scott. Fifty years ago Dell and I met at a bar near the U of Mn. We were carrying on custom from days when we taught at Michigan Tech (56-58). As I told Dell about my married life, I could see him rhythmically clenching and relaxing fingers of both hands resting on the bar. At one point, he said: "Bowie, before I'd live like that, I'd kill myself." He died a few days after I left for New Zealand in 1962. What I really want to tell you is: two men can develop special communication paths. Dell and I certainly shared some.

Greg Isakson lives with dogs and family in a home not quite directly across the street.
Robert Meyer's artistry lets me tell and show you this:

Greg's spouse Teresa phoned me early Nov 24 afternoon. "Could you use help getting the place ready for the celebration?" Could I!! She came over, tidied up, cleared up, dusted and polished. Somehow, Rob Meyer's sixth sense knew that Teresa's face carried a record of all that care.

When Greg arrived home from work, he came over and did things like arrange how the food and beverages were laid out. Shortly before 7:00 p.m., Teresa's sister and her daughter M. C. joined the team.

The main reason I attended early Wednesday morning coffee and book discussion sessions with members of the Presbyterian Mens' Group was to take advantage of opportunity to chum with Harley Slakier. It was like drinking beer with Dell Kerr.

The warmest social relations we enjoyed during 22 years of living here have been with staff members of local shops and businesses. For example, Nancy especially liked working out remodeling and design details with Debbie.

On Friday, December 18, 2009, Tony Storing and his partner, John, installed 104 square feet of cork covered floor panels in the second floor kitchen of our home. If Nancy had lived to see such fine professional workmanship performed, a long wished for dream would have been met. Now, however, the entertainment area of the home is ready for the next planned community event. One idea is to build upon the experience with the June 21, 2008, Animal Blessing. Fr. Charles Uhlik blessed animals.

Monica Root told me about the protracted illness of her father, Roger Boldt, and the blessing of his death on December 7, 2009. Nancy did not know that Monica's mother, Gloria, had provided extended care for Roger for several months. As Nancy's health weakened in the same timeframe, she often recalled chats with her chum, Gloria, at the local adult detention center.

Upon reviewing images of William Root "talking" with our Sasha, I have dedicated myself toward celebration of local pet and person lifetimes in year 2010.

Photo editing tools may be used to single out individuals in Robert Meyer's group images. Craig Strom honors us with his humanity. For example, he recognizes Sasha as an escape artist. Recently he saw her flashing by, headed in a risky direction. He called her name: she stopped and heeded his call to come to him.
I assure you, it takes someone with special instincts to accomplish that type of rescue with Sasha.

I shared Muriel Davies' 2009 Cristmas Card note with you. Doing so lets me reply online. Two-finger pecking and stareing at a display beat slobering on notepaper. Mu mentions Samantha and children, and brother Chris. Sammy the train station cat was named after Samantha. I gave Nancy's copy of the magazine 'Pets and People' to Sheryl, one of the three staff members of ECONO FOODS who participated. The way she clutched the magazine as she left the celebration proved she is a cat-lover like Nancy was and Muriel is.

Colleen and Donna in background, David Harris and Jack Strobel in foreground.

Jack Strobel practiced using a laptop to play hymns from a CD through a room audio system. The hymns sung by
Charlotte Church were Ave Maria and Amazing Grace.

Mu, you mention Edwina. I received a Christmas note from her. She said that Mousehole population now has few original folks, like her own family. Her Mom, Stella was such a love! I can hear her fine soprano singing folk and hymns in the pub or up at Paul Church. I have three CDs of Charlotte Church's voice, and a CD of Welsh Male Choir singers to keep me close to you. Edwina kindly sent a 45 rpm tape of the Mousehole Male Voice Choir titled "With Heart and Voice". Christmas Day will be a fine opportunity to test the acoustic behavior of the new flooring.

I thought about writing about neighbors Richard and Judith Falc in an interpretive manner. To have tried to do would fallen short of the subtlety evident in the six images produced by Robert Meyer's artistry.

Nancy Elizabeth Calveard graduated with a secondary school diploma 1n 1943 from a distinguished private school called Presentation Academy. It was founded in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1831 and was opened in 1893. Nancy was very prideful of her schooling heritage. She died on November 10, 2009, as my spouse, Nancy Elizabeth Bowie. I am blessed to have received the following note on Presentation Academy stationery from Sister of Charity of Nazareth Sister Miriam Corcoran.
